Custom commercial entrance gates create a controlled first impression while coordinating security, access, structure and architectural finishes. Unlike a standard gate selected only by nominal width, a project-specific entrance system is developed around the finished opening, traffic pattern, operating method, local exposure and building design.
For U.S. architects, general contractors, developers, hospitality buyers and commercial property teams, the most useful quotation starts with drawings and operating requirements. APEX can coordinate custom dimensions, stainless steel selection, panel patterns, frames, finishes, fabrication and export packaging after the project information is reviewed.
Where custom commercial entrance gates are used
Architectural entrance gates can serve hotels, apartment developments, office buildings, retail properties, private clubs, restaurants, mixed-use projects and controlled vehicle or pedestrian entries. The gate may be a strong visual feature, a security boundary or both.
The application determines the design priorities. A hotel arrival gate may emphasize appearance and quiet operation, while a service entrance may prioritize durability, clear access and straightforward maintenance. Exterior gates also need an exposure review for rain, wind, salt air, dust and temperature changes.
Define the gate type and operating method
Confirm whether the project requires a swing gate, sliding gate, pivoting entrance panel, paired leaves or another custom arrangement. The available side clearance, opening direction, vehicle path, pedestrian route and surrounding walls can eliminate unsuitable operating methods early.
Manual and powered gates require different hardware, clearances and service access. If automation is planned, provide the operator model, control method, duty cycle and safety-device requirements before the frame and mounting points are finalized. Electrical and access-control work should be coordinated by qualified destination-market trades.
Measure the finished commercial opening
Record the clear opening width and height at several points, not only one dimension. Identify finished floor levels, slopes, curbs, columns, wall cladding, ceilings and any overhead restrictions. For an exterior ground-level gate, show the drainage direction and the highest point of the finished surface through the complete swing or travel path.
The drawing should distinguish the structural opening from the visible finished opening. Allowances may be needed for jamb plates, hinges, tracks, stops, seals, installation tolerances and maintenance access. A site photograph with marked dimensions helps explain conditions that are not obvious on a plan.
Select stainless steel for the environment
304 stainless steel is commonly considered for many architectural interiors and general exterior applications. More aggressive coastal, poolside or chloride-exposed locations may require 316 stainless steel or another project-specific corrosion strategy. Material selection should consider the complete environment, not only whether the gate is indoors or outdoors.
Sheet thickness, tube or frame section, internal reinforcement, fasteners and weld finishing all affect performance. Stainless grade alone does not determine structural capacity. The project engineer should verify wind, impact, operational and attachment loads for the actual opening and jurisdiction.
Coordinate the frame, panels and visual pattern
A commercial gate can combine solid panels, perforated sections, vertical members, decorative screens, glass or other approved infill materials. The pattern should support the desired privacy and visibility while avoiding openings or projections that conflict with local safety requirements.
Large panels need internal support to control movement and maintain alignment. Frame depth, panel seams and grain direction should be resolved before production. Where two leaves meet, the center line, stops, locks and hardware should form one coordinated detail rather than a collection of site modifications.
Plan access control and security hardware
Provide the intended lock, latch, card reader, keypad, intercom, request-to-exit device and door-position monitoring requirements. Hardware preparation is easier and cleaner when cable routes, boxes, mounting plates and service panels are included in the fabrication drawing.
Security should not be planned separately from life safety. Required egress, emergency release, accessibility, sensor protection and powered-gate safeguards depend on the occupancy and locally adopted codes. Final hardware selection and field commissioning should be reviewed by the responsible U.S. design and installation professionals.
Choose an architectural finish
Brushed stainless steel provides a controlled directional grain and works well with contemporary storefronts and metal cladding. Mirror-polished, bead-blasted, powder-coated and selected PVD color directions can be evaluated according to the design, exposure and order quantity.
Approve a physical finish sample under the project lighting. Large gate surfaces make grain direction, gloss variation and weld finishing easy to see. Dark exterior colors may become hot in direct sun, so finish selection should consider touch surfaces and local climate.
Structural and installation coordination
The supporting wall, column, slab, embedded plate and anchor system must carry the gate and its operating loads. A fabrication drawing can show connection locations, but the building structure and site anchors should be approved by the responsible local engineer.
Installation planning should address delivery access, lifting points, panel weight, assembly sequence, floor protection and final adjustment. Oversized gates may be divided into transportable sections. Confirm the maximum crate dimensions and site access before the production design is released.

Custom commercial entrance gate FAQ
Can an entrance gate be made to a non-standard opening?
Yes. Custom width, height, panel layout and frame details can be developed from approved project drawings and verified site dimensions.
Can access-control hardware be prepared at the factory?
Hardware cutouts, reinforcement and cable provisions can be coordinated when the exact equipment and installation details are supplied before production.
Is 304 or 316 stainless steel better for an exterior gate?
The answer depends on salt exposure, pollution, cleaning, finish, fasteners and maintenance. 316 stainless may be considered for demanding chloride environments, while 304 suits many general architectural applications after project review.
Does the manufacturer provide U.S. code approval?
Project geometry and fabrication can be coordinated with the supplied requirements, but the architect, engineer and installer of record should confirm locally adopted building, accessibility, egress, electrical and powered-gate requirements.
